The 10 Bestselling EVs of 2024
Car and Driver
While sales of electric vehicles haven't increased quite as sharply as some may have once expected, most EVs saw significant sales increases in 2024. More and more options continue to flood the market as traditional automakers look to steal sales away from Tesla, although they are still a long way from unseating the Texas-based company as the king of EVs. We've combed through all of the data and drawn up a list of the 10 bestselling EVs of 2024.
Before we dive into the numbers, however, we must mention a few caveats. Some automakers don't report detailed sales numbers for each model in their lineup and some don't report sales numbers at all. In certain cases, this ultimately doesn't matter—Maserati only sells a few thousand vehicles per year, so the Grecale Folgore almost certainly didn't trouble the list of bestselling EVs in 2024.
But with Tesla, which only reports global numbers and doesn't split it up by model, this obviously prevents an issue. In Tesla's case, we can use estimates reported by Automotive News to get a solid sense of how many of each model Tesla sold in 2024.
But the Automotive News estimates don't solve every issue as they don't break out the sales by model for every automaker. The biggest issue here is Rivian, which reported 51,579 deliveries in 2024. If we took that number by itself, it would put Rivian in fourth place on this list. But Rivian doesn't detail how many of those deliveries were for the R1T truck, R1S SUV, or RCV commercial van. We know that between August and December, Rivian delivered roughly 5000 vans, but its challenging to estimate how many of each model the American startup sold in 2024. It's possible the R1S or R1T made it into the top ten, but the best we can give the Rivian models for now is an honorable mention.
More on car sales in 2024: Tesla Cybertruck: 24,300 units sold (estimated)
The controversial Tesla Cybertruck, which finally entered production in late 2023, snuck into the top 10 in its first full year on sale, just beating out the BMW i4 and Chevrolet Blazer EV, which each sold more than 23,000 units.
