There has been so much talk, and so many rumors about the Tesla Cybercab or Robotaxi that it’s sometimes difficult to remember what’s real and what isn’t. The automated electric vehicle is now official of course, but new spy shots suggest that there might be an unexpected feature. A new Cybercab has been spotted driving around the Gigafactory in Texas with imagery posted to the X social network. They were taken by someone who regularly flies drones over the factory and the Cybercab that was spotted appears to have a steering wheel which is something that we didn’t really expect. It’s hard to see from the original shot, but as Electrek notes, things become clearer when the image’s contrast and exposure are edited. So what does this mean? At this point, we don’t know. Some wonder if this means that there will be a consumer version of the Cybercab that is sold with a steering wheel while the most likely explanation is that the wheel will be part of all Cybercabs. Driver supervision could well be required and if so, that would explain the steering wheel. As Electrek does also note though, Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said that the company is in the middle of “unsupervised self-driving trials” involving its employees.
