Questions surrounding refusal to insure Tesla Cybertruck

Dear Editor,
I am seeking clarity from vehicle insurance companies in New Providence regarding their refusal to provide comprehensive or third-party coverage for the Tesla Cybertruck.
The reasons given, including its titanium construction, alleged steering malfunctions, and concerns about sourcing parts, lack evidence. When questioned, no substantiating data has been provided.
Whatâs even more concerning is that, despite these general refusals, some Tesla Cybertrucks in New Providence have been insured. This raises questions about the consistency and fairness of these practices. If coverage is possible for a select few, why are others being denied?
The Bahamas is slowly embracing electric vehicles, yet these arbitrary barriers discourage progress and innovation.
Insurance companies must provide transparency and evidence-based reasons for such decisions. Selective coverage without clear justification undermines consumer trust and raises concerns about whether these companies truly serve the Bahamian publicâs best interests.
If this is the direction of our insurance industry, it is deeply troubling. I urge insurers to reconsider their policies and encourage open dialogue to address this issue fairly and equitably.
Sincerely,
