The late Thursday evening launch brings the new Model Y to Canada, while the existing Model Y is still available. The debut comes after recent price increases to the Model 3 and Model Y, plus a stated February 1 price hike, on top of the federal iZEV rebate ($5,000) ending.
So what’s new with this Model Y refresh? Let’s break it down (via Tesla North)…
New exterior front and rear light bar (an indirect reflective taillight)
Better aerodynamics for increased range and performance
New wheels, tires and brakes and retuned suspension
Acoustic glass all around and invisible speakers (16 speakers; up from 14)
Heated/ventilated front seats and new soft textiles (rear middle seat loses heated function, boo)
8-inch rear touchscreen (like the Model 3 refresh)
15.4-inch new front touchscreen (was 15″ before)
Improved connectivity for Tesla’s Phone Key (likely Ultra Wideband chip like Model 3)
Power folding rear seats; hands-free trunk as you approach
Front bumper camera (for FSD) with spray wash
Glass roof gets silver coating for better heat refraction at 7x
484km estimated range (up from 443km); 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds (up from 5.0) thanks to included Acceleration Boost in Launch Series; other new coming models may not have Acceleration Boost included
Gear stalk disappears; turn signal stalk remains
Interior ambient lighting LED strip (like Model 3)
Front trunk (frunk) now has a drain hole (tailgate parties anyone?)
3 x 65W USB-C ports
Now, the only version of the new Model Y available is the ‘Launch Series’, which comes fully-loaded with all options, your choice of wheels, colours and includes the $11,000 Full Self-Driving option, for a price of $84,990 CAD.
This is essentially an early adopter price and forces new buyers to pay for all the goodies. But when you price out all the included options for the new Model Y and the existing Model Y—it’s actually cheaper to buy the refresh.
Here’s a breakdown of included options for the Model Y Launch Series, which ships in March 2025:
Paint: Stealth Grey (included); Pearl White, Ultra Red or Quicksilver ($1,300 to $2,600)
20-inch Helix 2.0 Wheels ($2,600)
Tow Hitch ($1,300)
