Private space company Blue Origin was founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, who permanently relocated to Florida.
Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket performed a hot fire test in December 2024 and had several launch attempts in January 2025.
At 320 feet tall, Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket is massive, standing taller than the SpaceX Falcon Heavy and ULA Delta IV Heavy rockets.
When Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin launches its New Glenn rocket − for the first time − people way outside the Space Coast of Florida could possibly see it light up the sky.
Depending on cloud cover, Floridians (and visitors) as far as Pensacola, Jacksonville, Cape Coral and Miami could see Blue Origin's New Glenn as it roars into the sky from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Visibility from most of Florida is possible, according to Blue Origin, which is owned by the billionaire Bezos.
Below is information on Blue Origin, New Glenn, how to watch the launch and suggestions on where to watch if you're in the Space Coast area or close to it.
About Blue Origin New Glenn rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida
It's the maiden launch of Blue Origin's massive New Glenn rocket. From concept to potential launch, it's been years in the making. If the launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, is successful, Blue Origin's 320-foot-tall New Glenn rocket will be certified to carry Department of Defense missions.
Cape Canaveral is an hour east of the Orlando theme parks. Depending on cloud cover, weather and visibility, people from Orlando, Daytona Beach to Cocoa Beach and Vero Beach might see a nice streak in the sky — given the proximity to NASA's Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The Space Coast of Florida includes 72 miles of coast, from Mims and Titusville to Melbourne and Grant-Valkaria.
If you're not near Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral or surrounding areas from Florida's Space Coast, you can still see Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket launch liftoff − virtually.

What is New Glenn?
In September 2015, Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, joined by then-Florida Gov. Rick Scott, announced plans to build and launch New Glenn rockets on the Space Coast of Florida. The massive rocket successfully completed a hot-fire test in December 2024 and was set to launch in January 2025.
The company's YouTube bio sums it up: "We are building a road to space for the benefit of Earth, humanity’s blue origin. Our team is focused on radically reducing the cost of access to space and harnessing its vast resources while mobilizing future generations to realize this mission. Blue Origin builds reusable rocket engines, launch vehicles, in-space systems, and lunar landers."
When will Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Glenn rocket launch?
When it does happen, the launch will occur from Space Launch Complex-36, which will make for a spectacular sight from Brevard County's beaches. It's the only launchpad where people on the beach can watch the rocket from ignition to its climb into space.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, the next attempt to launch New Glenn from Cape Canaveral is at 1 a.m. EDT Thursday, Jan. 16, according to FLORIDA TODAY's rocket launch calendar for January 2025. There will be a three-hour launch window.
