A new Model Y for 2025 I travelled to Dublin recently to get a first look at the new Tesla Model Y. And compared to the outgoing version, the new Model Y has received much more than just a facelift. It now boasts a new look with a completely redesigned front face with Tesla Cybertruck-esque lightbar that runs the full length of the bonnet, and the headlights are now placed below. The Tesla ‘T’ logo has also been removed. I suppose by now, the brand is that well established that people know what car it is when they see it. At the rear there’s the biggest full-length lightbar of any vehicle around and it looks really smart as it cascades light on to the Tesla letters below. LIGHT FANTASTIC: Tesla Model Y features a huge lightbar that runs the full length of the boot Credit: DARREN LIGGETT The boot is electrically operated and as the rear lights are built into the tail hatch, when it is in the up position Tesla has fitted two lights underneath, above the rear bumper, and they are illuminated red when stationary. Or if you put on your indicator, it will flash orange so motorists approaching from the rear can see that you are parked — clever. And speaking of indicators, one of my annoyances about the Model 3 was the lack of an indicator stalk. Tesla has fitted one on the left but has no plans to introduce it to the Model Y, and the only response I have to that is — why not? Inside, rear-seat passengers can enjoy an 8in display. There’s also rear-heated seats, a button in the boot to power recline the second row and when folded flat, the Model Y has a huge total boot space of 2,130 litres.
