In February 2025, The Boring Company and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) signed an initial agreement to build the Dubai Loop, a unique underground rapid transit network that will cover 17 kilometers of the city's busiest sections. This innovative project, which could significantly improve urban mobility, was presented during the World Summit of Governments, where the Minister of Artificial Intelligence of the United Arab Emirates, Omar Al Olama, revealed key details about this ambitious plan via a video call with Elon Musk.
Goal: Faster and more efficient transportation for 20,000 passengers per hour
According to information from The Boring Company, the memorandum of understanding includes an initial phase that includes 11 stations, through which passengers will travel through underground tunnels at speeds of up to 160 km/h. This system should enable the transportation of more than 20,000 passengers per hour in the initial phase, and over time the capacity could exceed 100,000 passengers per hour. Although no specific start date has been announced, construction is expected to begin in the coming years.

The Boring Company, founded by a well-known entrepreneur in 2016, is dedicated to solving the problem of traffic congestion in urban areas through underground tunnels and advanced transportation technologies. Among the company’s most famous projects is the Las Vegas Loop, a system of underground tunnels that connects key locations in Las Vegas, including the Convention Center and major hotels. Although originally conceived as a fully automated system with autonomous vehicles, the project currently uses Tesla electric vehicles to transport passengers through the tunnel tubes.
One of the company’s earlier projects was the Hawthorne Test Tunnel in California, about 1.8 kilometers long, which served as a proof of concept for future transportation systems. While ambitious plans such as the Hyperloop, a system that would enable ultra-fast transportation between cities, have remained at the theoretical level, The Boring Company continues to develop underground transportation networks adapted to urban environments.

This project in Dubai could set new standards in urban transportation, and the partnership between the company and the United Arab Emirates authorities will certainly create a model that could be replicated in other major cities around the world.
