After clocking 2 million miles of all-electric heavy-duty freight movement in Southern California last year, WattEV announced that it will take delivery of 40 Tesla Semis in 2026 to expand on that success.
This comes after the electric-truck-as-a-service provider added two Semis to its fleet this year. Tesla recently revealed that the Semi will enter mass production by the end of 2025.
“We’ve been future-proofing all our charging depots to allow for the transition from CCS charging to megawatt charging with MCS,” said Salim Youssefzadeh, CEO of WattEV, in a recent statement. “Our collaboration with Tesla is another major milestone as we expand our network to electrify freight on more routes throughout California and beyond.”
The new pair of Semis are the first to make their way to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the nation’s largest port complex.
“We’re glad to see Tesla Semis deployed at Port of Long Beach,” said Mario Cordero, CEO of the Port of Long Beach, in a recent statement. “This is another step forward towards increased adoption and our commitment to elimination of heavy-duty freight emissions at the port.”
As WattEV is focused on a longer driving ranges for its fleet of electric trucks, with some seeing as much as 550 miles a day on certain routes in California, the 500-mile range of the Tesla Semi aligns with its goals. The company also plans to add Tesla Gen-IV chargers at its depots when the Semis arrive in 2026.
