NASA's Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission is all set for the launch this month. As a part of its Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, NASA will attempt yet another touchdown on the Moon, this time with another commercial partner, i.e., Elon Musk's SpaceX.
The Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission is targeted to launch on Wednesday, February 26, and will lift off on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Moon landing mission will also feature NASA's Athena, the Nova-C lunar lander, an improved version of last year's Odysseus.
Additionally, the agency's Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft will also launch as a rideshare with the IM-2 delivery to map the distribution of the different forms of water to the Moon.
Ahead of the Moon landing attempt, here's how to catch the live coverage of NASA's second lunar mission.
When and where to watch NASA's second lunar mission launch?
The coverage for the entire launch day of the mission will be available on the NASA website, including live streaming and blog updates on February 26. Further, on-demand streaming video and pictures of the launch will be also available after the lift-off.
NASA will take part in a media teleconference about the lunar delivery readiness for the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission at 11:30 am (ET) on Wednesday. Interested space enthusiasts can stream it live on https://www.nasa.gov/live/
Nasa's lunar mission
Coming back to the mission objectives, Intuitive Machines' lunar lander Athena will spend around one week in transit to the Moon before making a landing on March 6. It is expected to carry NASA's science investigations and technology demonstrations to help the agency understand the Moon's environment and prepare for future missions.
The IM-2 mission will also be one of the first on-site demonstrations of resource use, beginning with a drill and mass spectrometer and a passive Laser Retroreflector Array (LRA).
Earlier, in February 2024, the CLPS program and Intuitive Machines' Odysseus touched down on the Moon's South Pole, marking the USA's first soft landing on the lunar surface in more than 50 years after Apollo.
