CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — United Launch Alliance is moving forward with final preparations for the Atlas V Kuiper 2 mission, scheduled to launch Monday at 12:25 p.m. CDT from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The mission will deploy additional satellites for Amazon's Project Kuiper constellation using an Atlas V 551 rocket configuration, featuring five solid rocket boosters and a medium-length payload fairing. Weather conditions appear favorable, with meteorologists predicting a 75 percent chance of acceptable launch conditions.
The primary weather concern remains the Cumulus Cloud Rule, which carries a 25 percent probability of violating launch constraints. Should a 24-hour delay become necessary, weather forecasters maintain the same 25 percent violation probability with identical atmospheric concerns.
The launch represents another milestone in what ULA describes as "the world's largest commercial launch agreement" between Amazon and the aerospace company. The partnership encompasses a total of 46 missions - eight Atlas V launches and 38 Vulcan rocket flights - designed to establish Amazon's satellite internet constellation.
The Project Kuiper initiative aims to provide global broadband internet coverage through a network of low Earth orbit satellites. Amazon's constellation will compete directly with existing services like SpaceX's Starlink and other emerging satellite internet providers.
