In a dramatic turn of events, a SpaceX rocket exploded during a test in Texas late Wednesday night, casting a fiery display into the sky. The incident, described by the company as a 'major anomaly,' occurred at around 11 pm while preparations were underway for the tenth test flight at SpaceX's Starbase launch site.
Despite the explosion, all safety precautions ensured personnel safety, according to a statement released by SpaceX on platform X. The recent mishap adds to a growing list of setbacks faced by SpaceX involving their ambitious Starship rockets. Previous incidents include a rocket breaking apart on January 16 and another losing contact on March 6, leading to wreckage over Florida.
Following another failed attempt on March 27, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk deemed the situation an improvement from earlier demonstrations and pledged to increase the launch frequency significantly. Although the recent explosion posed no threats to surrounding communities, the company has urged locals to maintain distance from the site as collaborative efforts with local authorities continue.
