The electric SUV will be the brand's first car in the country, and it is expected to be priced around Rs 50 lakhs!
BHPian mgastor2022grey recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
Tesla is gearing up to launch the brand in India this July.
The cars that they would bring in would be made in Shanghai, China.
They are looking forward to introducing their first showrooms in Mumbai and New Delhi by mid-July.
The first model they plan to bring in is the Model Y SUV, which was recently updated worldwide. Though many details have not been unveiled, it is expected to be priced at approximately 50 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The question is, would you buy this car if it were launched in India?
Here's what BHPian sunikkat replied:
Voted No as I wouldn't if I were in the market for that budget. I would prefer an ICE, more importantly, a German luxury car in that budget.
But I am just waiting to see some Teslas on Indian roads.
Here's what BHPian It's Magic replied:
Voted No.
To begin with, electric cars and the charging infrastructure are still a work in progress in India. Many people continue to use non-electric cars as their primary vehicle. Additionally, price sensitivity is a significant factor in the Indian market.
We also need to see how Tesla develops in India over the next few years—how its service centres and showrooms expand. I believe it’s too early to consider buying a Tesla in India.
In the long run, you never know—I might opt for one eventually, but certainly not at this stage.
Here's what BHPian vishal9999 replied:
I will definitely consider buying the Tesla Model Y if key concerns like ground clearance, availability of a spare wheel, and usable boot space are addressed, and if it comes equipped with autonomous driving capabilities similar to those offered in the U.S and priced around 45 lakhs.
Although my preference is for the Tesla Model X, which makes much more sense for our road conditions.
Here's what BHPian sj_koova replied:
Voted NO because, in my experience, BYD is better. I have driven Model 3 and Model Y.
Model-Y is powerful and sporty to drive, but I expect it to be expensive in India and the cost won't be justifiable.
Have driven Atto-3 (wife owns one now) and Sealion. Tesla won't be able to beat the cost, styling, power and utility of a Sealion.
