The mission is slated to lift off at 12:01 PM IST from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The crew will ride aboard a brand-new SpaceX Dragon capsule, with docking at the ISS targeted for 4:30 PM IST on Thursday, June 26.
Commanding the Ax-4 mission is veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson, now director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space. ISRO's Shubhanshu Shukla will serve as the mission's pilot, marking a significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey. The two mission specialists are European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, part of the HUNOR program.
The mission faced multiple setbacks over the past weeks — initially due to unfavorable weather conditions, followed by technical issues involving a leak on the Falcon 9 rocket and another on the Russian Zvezda service module aboard the ISS.
NASA confirmed the green light for the launch following successful repair work and discussions with Roscosmos.
“NASA and Roscosmos have a long history of cooperation on the ISS. This professional relationship has allowed the agencies to agree on a shared technical path forward,” said acting NASA Administrator Janet Petro.
