For anyone who has been saving up or waiting for the right time to switch to an electric vehicle, Tesla just gave Canadians a $20,000 reason to take the leap.
The company has slashed the price of the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive in Canada, dropping it from $84,990 to $64,990. The lower price reflects a return to pre-tariff levels and may signal a shift in the brand’s supply strategy.
According to Drive Tesla Canada, the significant price cut suggests Tesla is now importing the Model Y from its Giga Berlin factory, which exclusively produces that model. The move would allow Tesla to bypass the 100 per cent tariff Canada imposed earlier this year on electric vehicles manufactured in China.
The updated pricing appeared Thursday night on Tesla’s Canadian configurator and is currently the only model in the lineup to see a reduction, with all other vehicles still listed at post-tariff prices.
A new Diamond Black paint option, which was introduced in the U.S. this past spring, is now available to Canadian buyers for an added $2,000.
While Tesla hasn’t officially indicated a change in sourcing, Drive Tesla Canada reports that further evidence lies in the delivery estimates. Orders placed now show expected arrival between September and October, which is a longer window than usual for vehicles shipped from U.S. factories.
