(International Space Station) -- KMAland astronaut Peggy Whitson's latest space mission is coming to a close.
The SpaceX Crew Dragon carrying Whitson and her Axiom 4 crew undocked from the International Space Station Monday morning. Whitson and three other crew members from India, Poland and Hungary were launched from the Kennedy Space Center June 25th on a private mission aboard the ISS. Whitson and her AX-4 crew bade an emotional farewell to the seven station station crew members in a departure ceremony Sunday afternoon.
"We really enjoyed ourselves up there," said Whitson. "It was an amazing experience. It's always amazing to work with a bunch of professionals--which you are. But, it's even more special to work with folks that have become our friends even more deeply, and we really appreciate the fact that the camaraderie and the teaching you offered some of the crew was really exceptional--and we thank you."
While aboard the ISS, the Axiom crew conducted a series of medical experiences, including those aimed at battling cancer. Plans call for Axiom 4 to splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast sometime early Tuesday morning. The splashdown ends Whitson's fifth mission in her illustrious career--her second with Axiom.
