"Mumbai is not just the financial, commercial, and entertainment capital of India, it is the entrepreneurial capital that stands for innovation and sustainability. And Tesla represents exactly that! I experienced my first Tesla ride back in 2015 in the US, and knew then that India needed this. It took time, but we are glad to see it finally here," he added.
The CM expressed confidence that India will become a major market for Tesla.
Tesla officially entered the world's third-largest automobile market, India, with the launch of its electric Midsize SUV, the Tesla Model Y, priced from nearly Rs 60 lakh.
Currently, the Model Y will be the only model available in the country. It will be offered in two variants; Rear-Wheel Drive, priced at INR 60 lakhs, and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, priced at INR 68 lakhs, according to a report by ANI.
This flagship showroom, also referred to as a Tesla Experience Centre, is expected to be followed by more outlets in major metros, including New Delhi.
