A SpaceX Falcon 9 launched from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Southern California just before 9 p.m. and people all over the southwest saw the comet-like trail the rocket had. Even though the sun set just after 7:30 p.m., the rocket’s exhaust plume was still illuminated in the night sky.
