Companies like John Deere and CNH are partnering with Starlink, the satellite internet service by SpaceX, to provide high-speed connectivity even in remote regions. Deere began rolling out the service in Brazil and has since expanded to the U.S. and Canada. CNH, which owns Case IH, and New Holland, also announced an agreement with Starlink to support its FieldOps platform and enhance data sharing for connected equipment.
However, concerns are growing over Starlink’s long-term reliability due to its ownership by Elon Musk and his political ties, especially with former President Donald Trump. Critics fear this influence could compromise service neutrality or lead to political manipulation, as seen in threats to cut Starlink access to Ukraine. Canada and the European Union are both reconsidering reliance on Starlink, with Ontario cancelling a $100 million deal over such concerns.
