The researchers played a video of the actuator moving a grand piano to show off the production unit, known as Optimus Unit 1, which, even though it isn't walking yet, has a greater range of motion and completely dexterous hands, according to Interesting Engineering.
Musk's goal from the very start is o mass-produce autonomous robots that can replace boring and repetitive tasks. Hence, Optimus Unit 1 was equipped with several manufacturing stages to turn this goal into fruition.
Six actuators with similar capabilities and shared components make up Optimus Unit 1, compared to the 27 actuators that made up the joints of the Optimus Tesla robot. There were common components and systems that could be mass-produced all around Optimus Unit 1 as well.
According to the engineers, the price of Optimus Unit 1 might be less than $20,000. Interesting Engineering claimed that Optimus costs less than any other humanoid robot to date, even though it may look expensive.
The two-hour-long engineering segment of the presentation covered every aspect of Tesla's autonomous technology. The talk highlighted how decision-making, higher order thinking, the unique chip and processor units, and all the technology that Tesla integrates into its cars are used to construct the autopilot, a standard feature in all Tesla vehicles.
The emphasis of AI Day 2022's engineering session was on enticing outside engineers, designers, and producers to aid Tesla's creation of autonomous systems.
