Authorities Say Investigation Into Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s Death Is Ongoing.
Investigators have identified singer-songwriter D4vd as a suspect in the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, whose dismembered remains were discovered in September inside a Tesla registered to him, according to law enforcement sources via TMZ and other media outlets.
Rivas, who disappeared from the Lake Elsinore area in April 2024, was identified through forensic testing after a tow yard employee reported a strong odor coming from the vehicle’s front trunk on Sept. 8. Police later confirmed the remains had been placed inside a bag in the Tesla’s “frunk,” which had been sitting impounded for roughly a month after being reported abandoned in the Hollywood Hills.
Detectives say evidence indicates the teenager likely died in the spring and that the dismemberment and disposal of her body involved more than one person.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of death.
According to a source that spoke with NBC 4 News, who has direct knowledge of the case, the 20-year-old musician, whose legal name is David Burke, has not cooperated with investigators. Police have also examined his former rental home in the Hollywood Hills for possible blood evidence.
One detail under review, according to a source, is a late-night drive Burke allegedly made to a remote part of Santa Barbara County in spring 2025. Investigators have not publicly explained why that trip may be relevant, and the information has not been independently confirmed.
Rivas had not been seen in photos or videos since late 2024, her family told local media. Her brother, Matthew Rivas, stated that she disappeared on April 5 while en route to meet him for a movie. He also confirmed that the family knew she had been acquainted with Burke.
The Tesla was impounded after residents reported it was parked for extended periods on Bluebird Avenue, near the Bird Streets residential area. Neighbors told officers the car had been moved several times over the summer before it was finally towed for violating the 72-hour street-parking limit. According to the LAPD, the vehicle had been ticketed 11 days before Rivas’ remains were found.
Burke’s world tour was underway on the day the body was discovered, with shows scheduled in Minneapolis and Kansas City. All remaining dates were cancelled after the investigation intensified.
D4vd rose to prominence on TikTok and later signed with Darkroom and Interscope Records on the strength of viral tracks including “Romantic Homicide.” His representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
