Elon Musk kicked off the new year by donating approximately $100 million worth of Tesla shares to undisclosed charities, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The filing revealed that Musk transferred around 210,000 Tesla shares just before the new year as part of his year-end tax planning, ensuring his contribution would support charitable causes while optimizing taxes.
While the recipients of the shares remain anonymous, the filing noted that they have “no current intention” to sell the stock, signaling that the donation aims for long-term charitable impact rather than immediate liquidation. Read more : Elon Musk becomes first person worth $500 billion
Musk’s donation represents only a small fraction of his fortune, as his net worth in 2025 was estimated at over $600 billion, keeping him on track to become the world’s first trillionaire.
In addition to philanthropy, Musk continues to focus on strengthening his control over Tesla, emphasizing that he requires at least 25 percent voting power to expand the company’s AI and robotics initiatives confidently.
Historically, Musk has made substantial year-end donations, including $1.95 billion in 2022 and roughly $5.7 billion in 2021, much of it linked to the Musk Foundation, reflecting his consistent philanthropic approach over the years.
