: Ukraine's President Zelensky says Trump 'will not change' during Davos speech
Trump has inaugurated today his Board of Peace to lead efforts at maintaining a ceasefire in Israel’s war with Hamas, insisting that “everyone wants to be a part” of the body he said could eventually rival the United Nations — despite many US allies opting not to participate.
The new peace board was initially envisioned as a small group of world leaders overseeing the ceasefire, but it has morphed into something far more ambitious — and scepticism about its membership and mandate has led some countries usually closest to Washington to take a pass.
Britain will not yet sign up to the Board of Peace amid concerns about potential Russian involvement in the plan, the Foreign Secretary has said. Yvette Cooper said the UK would discuss with allies the “different supportive role” it could play in the Gaza peace process as she faced questions about the prospect of joining the group.
Trump tried not to let those not participating ruin his unveiling party, saying 59 countries had signed onto the board — even though heads of state, top diplomats and other officials from only 19 countries plus the US actually attended the event. He told the group, ranging from Azerbaijan to Paraguay to Hungary, “You’re the most powerful people in the world.”
Musk was a heavyweight backer of Trump during his presidential campaign and once in power he headed up the Department of Government Efficiency - which later was ridiculed by critics for not achieving its targets. And then after Musk stepped away from the role he had a well publicised falling out with the president.
Meanwhile Musk's appearance at Davos comes after he trolled the elite meeting in a series of posts on his social media platform X in 2023. “We shouldn’t be obsessed with WEF/Davos, but they take themselves sooo seriously that making fun of them is awesome,” he wrote in one post.
In another he said the WEF “is increasingly becoming an unelected world government that the people never asked for and don’t want.” A WEF spokesman said that year that Musk wasn’t invited, despite his claim that he turned down an invite because he thought it was “boring.”

Musk' is currently also embroiled in a war of words with Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary that began with a dispute over installing Starlink systems on Ryanair planes. O’Leary on Wednesday dismissed the tech titan’s suggestion he would buy the budget airline.
