The owner of a Tesla was left 'shaken up' after his £12,000 car 'exploded' while parked at the side of the road.
After hearing an 'almighty explosion' while sitting inside his home, Rich Farrant ran outside to see his 'dream car' up in flames.
The 56-year-old bought the vehicle, a 2022 Model 3 Performance, last October and said he had trouble charging it before the blast on November 17.
It is understood that the car, bought from an auction site Copart, had previously been involved in an accident.
The manufacturer said it was not able to inspect the vehicle, which has now been written off, to determine why it blew up.
Mr Farrant, from Compton Dando, Somerset, said: 'It was my dream car, really, and it just went up in smoke.
'There was this really weird hissing noise outside and then this almighty explosion.
'I was really shaken up. If someone was walking past the car, that would have been horrific.'

He added his neighbour used an extinguisher to put out the blaze before fire crews checked it as a precaution.
Mr Farrant later bought another Tesla from Co Part for £9,000, but having 'always wanted' a self-driving Tesla, he was disappointed that it lacked the old one's added features, namely enhanced autopilot and full self-driving.
And Tesla refused to install them in the new vehicle free of charge.
In correspondence with Mr Farrant, the company wrote: 'Upon review, we are unable to offer any goodwill gesture in response to the concerns raised.
'We can confirm that the vehicle was purchased third-party via a co-partner and was involved in an accident.
'Additionally, the vehicle was not inspected on-site at Tesla, and the cause of the fire damage has not been investigated by our local teams.
'Given the above, we are unable to install FSD or EAP on the vehicle.'
A Tesla spokesman declined to comment further.
