Tesla Drivers Can Finally Activate Grok Without Looking Down at a Screen

Are Tesla drivers the absolute worst? Data-wise, no. Not quite. Usually Dodge’s Ram truck brand ranks worst in those studies you sometimes see that are drawn from insurance data, usually performed by LendingTree for whatever reason. They tend to rank Tesla drivers the third worst, or the second worst. So they certainly don’t need any more distractions.
But here’s the good news: with the arrival of the Tesla software Spring Update 2026, Tesla drivers might be slightly less distracted by Grok while they’re driving, because now they can activate their favorite chatbot by saying “Hey Grok.”
When Grok was added to Tesla’s last year, it seemed a little haphazard. You couldn’t, for instance, ask it about the status of your car, or instruct it to, say, turn the heat up. You were mostly just supposed to have little Grokky conversations with it, as Tesla made clear in its own sidesplittingly funny X post:
Hey @Tesla_Optimus … @grok wants to know if you’re free tonight pic.twitter.com/xXfSkg8M22
