*Rising artist d4vd, real name David Burke, has been arrested by LAPD on suspicion of murder in the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were found in a Tesla registered to the singer.
The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division confirmed the arrest on X, noting that Burke, 21, is currently held without bail. “Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division, have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas. Burke is being held without bail,” the department stated. TMZ also obtained footage capturing the moment of his arrest.
According to CBS News, the matter is headed to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office, where prosecutors are expected to announce a charging decision on Monday. Burke had already been under grand jury scrutiny related to Hernandez’s death before authorities moved to detain him.

His legal team is firmly contesting the allegations. Attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter released a statement asserting that the “actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death.” They further emphasized that “there has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed,” pledging to vigorously defend his innocence.
Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani provided clarity on the grand jury process at the state level. “In an investigative grand jury, typically, they don’t have the power to return an indictment,” Rahmani explained. “If you convene a grand jury in state court for an investigative purpose, they typically will not return an indictment as well. They can prepare a report but that will go to the DA’s office.”
The grim discovery at the center of the case occurred on September 8, 2025, when a foul odor drew authorities to a Hollywood tow yard. Inside a Tesla tied to Burke, court records indicate officers found a decomposed head and torso alongside additional body parts, all described as “severely decomposed” and “dismembered.”
Hernandez had been listed as missing out of Lake Elsinore by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The last time she was seen at her home was on April 5, 2024, when she walked out at 9 p.m. No one has seen her since then.
