A Tesla customer who crashed his brand-new Cybertruck just four hours after picking it up has said it will cost him thousands of dollars and almost one year to fix. RELATED: Will the Tesla Cybertruck ever come to Australia? Here’s why it’s unlikely
The owner, @bfreshwa, alleged on his X account (formerly known as Twitter) that the June 11 accident was no fault of his own. He claimed the brakes on his Cybertruck did not disengage the throttle, causing him to crash into a nearby house.
According to the driver, Tesla told him: “We have reviewed logs, and due to the terrain, the accelerator may or may not disengage when the brake is depressed. As far as the back tire [sic] locking we are reviewing.”
It is understood to be a separate issue from the one that forced Tesla to halt deliveries of the Cybertruck in April of this year, in which owners reported problems with the accelerator pedal getting stuck.
'One year and $30,000'
Now, the same Cybertruck owner is alleging he has been quoted “one year for parts” and “$30,000 max” for the repairs.
Delays are becoming an increasingly common issue with the Cybertruck after the futuristic-looking EV had a bit of a false start, arriving to customers nearly five years late and with problems from the get-go.
Issues with the new model are so numerous that there is an entire subreddit, r/CyberStuck, dedicated to posting broken-down Cybertrucks.
Here, users have expressed concerns about the wait times for repairs and the lack of parts available to fix the issues these trucks are experiencing.
Some users on the subreddit have shared posts from people on X who took delivery of their cars and were then told on the same day they had to wait four weeks for repairs.
X user @JC82x posted: “I’m a big fan, but Tesla is dropping the ball on Cybertruck on several fronts. I owned mine for 6 hours before it needed to be towed. The repair timeline is 4+ weeks.”
