Falcon Oil and Gas Ltd. started its drilling program for 2024 with the spudding of the Shenandoah South 2H (SS2H) horizontal well under exploration permit 98 in the Beetaloo Sub-Basin, Northern Territory, Australia.
Once the SS2H well is drilled, partner Tamboran B2 Pty. Ltd. will turn its attention to the Shenandoah South 3H (SS3H) well off the same well pad location ahead of the stimulation program. This will be the largest single campaign in the Beetaloo Sub-basin to date, Falcon said in a statement.
The joint venture will use the same H&P super-spec FlexRig to drill both wells. According to Falcon, both wells will include a horizontal section of approximately 3,000 meters (9842 feet) and will target the Amungee Member B-shale at an estimated target depth of 3,020 meters (9910 feet). The joint venture is planning to spend 30 days drilling each well.
Liberty Energy’s frac fleet is also being mobilized from the United States to Australia to help with the stimulation of the wells. Each well will be stimulated with up to 60 stages, with the joint venture banking on Liberty fleet’s efficiency to increase the completed stages per day and optimize gas flows.
Initial flow tests for the two wells are expected in early 2025, and the wells will then be suspended as future producers to supply the Shenandoah South Pilot Project. This project, which is expected to commence production in mid-2026, aims to produce 40 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
An additional four-well drilling campaign is planned for 2025 to complete the project's drilling campaign.
“Following on from the success of the Shenandoah South 1H well announced earlier this year, and using the same drilling company, H&P, together with the arrival of the Liberty frac fleet, capable of materially increasing the stimulation intensity, we are really excited about being able to demonstrate the deliverability of the Amungee Member B-shale over 3,000 meters (9842 feet) horizontal sections”, Falcon CEO Philip O’Quigley said.
