The hype is gone. The anticipation is melting. The craze is plunging. Tesla Cybertruck enthusiasts no longer have to wait for months and months to get their vehicle delivered. So those who want it fast, can just go to the official website and order one for a lower price than what is on the used car market right now.
That being said, why would anybody want to buy a used Tesla Cybertruck right now? There was a time when the electric pickup truck would be flipped for an eye-watering $244,000. That is how much a Porsche dealership paid earlier this year to get one that was most likely delivered on the first batch of vehicles.
Tesla handed over the first ten Cybertrucks during an event held at the Giga Texas plant in Austin on November 30, 2023. That is when A-list customers such as Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and Serena Williams' husband, got his own
EV
. Then, the Cybertrucks started arriving in the garages of many stars. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Pharell Williams, and Kim Kardashian, who has recently painted her in Ghost Gray, just like all her other cars and mansion in California, got their hands on one.
NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal got not one but two Cybertrucks, just because he did not want to ship he "old" one from Las Vegas to Atlanta. His latest one is a gloss black Cybertruck, the world's first sporting a widebody kit.
And then, the hype was over. Tesla Cybertrucks listed for sale just stood there waiting for customers who never came. For instance, Tyler Hoover of Hoovies Garage traded in his Cybertruck for a Cadillac Lyriq in early summer.
In early September, the dealership still hadn't sold the vehicle. But it kept cutting the price, hoping to find a buyer. However, the Cybertruck was already below the price he got for it when he traded it in. That is how difficult selling a used Cybertruck has become.
Tesla sells them cheaper than they are on the used car market
Dealers that sell used vehicles have Cybertrucks listed with prices ranging from $99,000 to $180,000, with mileage anywhere between 300 (483 kilometers) and 30,000 miles (48,280 kilometers). But does buying a used Cybertruck really make sense right now? Tesla is already selling it for a price as low as $93,990. It is brand-new and the odometer only show the delivery miles.
For the money, you get the dual-motor all-wheel drive Cybertruck. Powered by a motor mounted at the front and another one at the rear, this Cybertruck comes with 600 horsepower and 7,435 pound-feet of torque, which make it flash from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.1 seconds and go all the way to a top speed of 112 mph (180 kph).
The electric pickup truck can tow as much as 11,000 pounds (4,990 kilograms). Tesla claims the dual-motor Cybertruck can drive as far as 318 miles (512 kilometers) on a single charge.
Those who want more in terms of horsepower and performance but can deal with less range can go for the Cyberbeast. With a three-motor setup, it does 0 to 60 in just 2.6 seconds, going into supercar territory.
With 845 horsepower and 10,298 pound-feet of torque on tap, the top-of-the-line Cyberbeast can go as fast as 130 mph. However, the range drops, so it can travel as far as 301 miles (484 kilometers) before it needs to be plugged in again. Owners claim that is just one more episode of Elon Musk overpromising and underdelivering.
