McGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - Some parade goers got a rare glimpse into the work of SpaceX after two rocket engines were paraded through the streets of downtown McGregor, just a few miles from the SpaceX rocket testing facility.
This is the second year the space company entered the annual McGregor Founder’s Day parade with eye-catching floats.
Robbie Anderson is the president of The McGregor Movement, which is the group that organized Founder’s Day.
Anderson, like many McGregor residents at the parade, feels the rumblings of SpaceX from his nearby home. He said getting to see what makes all the noise was a pretty cool sight.
“Definitely, being able to see all the futuristic type stuff we have going in McGregor, Texas, that’s definitely an eye opener for sure,” Anderson said.
Sources tell KWTX the rockets included a Raptor sea level engine version 2.
The Raptor engine was new and goes on Starship, the rocket SpaceX is building as part of its mission to one day rocket people and cargo to Mars.
The other rocket was a used Merlin engine called M1D. Merlin goes on Falcon 9.

That rocket, the sources say, had already been to space and back and is retired. Its next stop will be a museum.
The rockets were pulled by two employee owned Cybertrucks, and the floats were filled with employees and their families.
“I definitely think that the Cybertrucks with the rockets on there was top tier, top tier float for sure,” Anderson said. “I know everyone really enjoyed it. I thought it was super cool and just to have something that high end I would say at our Founder’s Day parade was definitely awesome.”
Last year, SpaceX entered a Raptor vacuum engine in the parade.
Anderson said this year’s parade was the largest one in the history of Founder’s Day.
The Founder’s day festival that followed at The Exchange Center in McGregor Saturday also included 54 cars in a car show, 12 food trucks and 53 arts and crafts vendors.
