Longtime GOP pollster Frank Luntz has publicly criticized Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris for dodging mainstream reporters since she became her party’s nominee.
But now Luntz says it’s Donald Trump who’s sidestepping them.
“It took a while, but she’s now taking the tough interviews, getting asked the tough questions and being challenged — 60 minutes did an outstanding job trying to get answers from her,” Luntz said on CNBC.
“And second, it’s actually Donald Trump who is ducking debates and ducking that interview on 60 Minutes that he said he would do and then backed away from,” he said.

Long past the midway point of her unexpected presidential campaign and with voting already underway, Harris is still introducing herself to Americans who will determine this year’s presidential election. It’s a sharp shift after largely avoiding interviews since replacing Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket, and it’s an acknowledgment that she needs to do more to defeat Trump.
Both Harris and Trump have primarily spent time talking to non-traditional media or sat down for more friendly question-and-answer sessions.
Harris, though, is in the middle of a media blitz in New York, with “The View” being the first of three stops. She’s also scheduled to speak with longtime radio host Howard Stern and tape a show with late-night comedian Stephen Colbert.
The trio of appearances came after Harris granted interviews to CBS’ “60 Minutes,” which aired Monday night, and Alex Cooper’s podcast “Call Her Daddy,” which was released Sunday.
Trump, meanwhile, declined to participate in an interview with “60 Minutes” for its election special and has so far said he won’t debate Harris, who has called for a second debate.
