In 2023, the West Shore RCMP made headlines for introducing a Tesla Model Y to its fleet of police vehicles.
This fall, the detachment will add two more electric vehicles (EVs), the fully electric Mustang Mach-E and a Ford F-150 Lightning. Mounties says both vehicles have been “outfitted to meet policing standards.”
The West Shore RCMP says the Tesla Model Y that’s currently in rotation has been receiving “positive feedback” since it launched, and that the two incoming EVs will help the RCMP reach its goal of having 50 per cent of its light-duty National Safety and Security Fleet be comprised of zero-emission vehicles.
There are currently four level 2 EV chargers at the West Shore RCMP detachment, and Mounties say the electric vehicles in its fleet will be regularly topped up, since officers return to the detachment several times a shift to complete their duties, like writing reports or meeting with clients.
Meanwhile, the West Shore RCMP is piloting a new “Federal Signal Valor light bar” on one of its vehicles. Unlike a standard light bar, which is rectangle on top of a car’s roof, the new light bar will be triangular in shape so that it can be seen from more angles.
