SpaceX is gearing up for a launch of the OneWeb Launch 20 mission, scheduled for Saturday, October 19, at 10:13 p.m. The mission, which will see the Falcon 9 rocket soar into the night sky, aims to deploy satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch is set to initiate from the Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The Falcon 9’s first stage is expected to make a terrestrial return approximately eight minutes post-liftoff. The targeted landing site, Landing Zone 4 (LZ-4), is also situated within Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The event may come with an audible rumble for the local community. Residents across Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties are warned for potential sonic booms as the booster descends back to Earth. While sonic booms are not unusual for such events, the intensity and reach can vary depending on atmospheric conditions and other environmental factors on the day of launch.
For eager space enthusiasts and casual spectators alike, SpaceX offers a live webcast available about 15 minutes prior to liftoff. The broadcast can be viewed on the SpaceX website at https://spacex.com/launches.
A backup launch opportunity is slated for Sunday, October 20 at 10:08 p.m., ensuring flexibility for the mission team in case of any delays due to weather or technical considerations.
