LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Tatum Tempelmeyer delivered a game-winning RBI single in the 8th inning to break a 0-0 tie in the Class B championship. Tempelmeyer’s hit ricocheted off Hastings pitcher Ella Tinsman, McKenna Loomis hustled home, and the Lady Orange jumped in celebration near first base while Beatrice fans exhaled.
The game‘s lone run came in dramatic fashion, and occurred following a controversial call in the Tigers‘ final at bat. Brooke Ochsner’s ground ball was fielded by Beatrice third baseman Tana Antons, who started a 5-4-3 double play. The umpire called Ochsner out at first base, though she appeared to be safe based on video review.
Beatrice seized the opportunity and claimed the school’s first state title since 2003.
