|Updated: 3 hours ago PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Early voting wrapped up this weekend in West Virginia.
Wood County saw over 18,000 people cast their ballot early, according to Wood County Clerk Joe Gonzales. That’s about a 32% voter turnout.
Gonzales said despite how busy early voting was, everything ran smoothly for election officials.
He sad they expect a strong turnout at polling places on Election Day as well.
As Wood County’s top election official, Gonzales said it’s exciting to see so much interest in this election.
“It is exciting,” he said. “It’s good to see people come out. You know, everybody has their candidate; everybody has an opinion on how they want the country to run. And it’s exciting to see people really come out and cast their vote. So, hopefully we get a lot of people out tomorrow night, and I expect it’s going to be a heavy turnout.”
Gonzales said he believes the hundreds of poll workers in the county are prepared for Election Day.
Local law enforcement will be active across the county on election day to ensure the election runs smoothly and safely in every precinct.
