—Tesla Optimus-sized ambitions, even. A recent deal in South Korea has seen the technology giant become the largest stakeholder in Rainbow Robotics,
with the explicit aim of developing humanoid robots.
Samsung reaches for the Sky(net)
The company previously acquired a 14.7% stake in Rainbow Robotics in 2023. The company builds everything from industrial robots to astronomical mounts to “counter-terrorism” robots. And yes, humanoid ‘bots are a (terrifyingly designed) option.
The commercial technology maker must like what Rainbow does for a living because it has hoovered up a further 20.3% of the company in its latest acquisition. That gives Samsung an extensive (but not controlling) stake of 35% in the robotics outfit. This will allow it to “accelerate the development of intelligent advanced humanoids” in conjunction with Rainbow Robotics.
