Tesla owner reveals how much it costs him to travel every 1,000 miles compared to petrol car
Is it enough to convince you to go electric?

A Tesla owner has opened up on how much it costs him to run his Model 3, giving a breakdown of the money he spends on charging it for every 1,000 miles of travel.
Making a trip across Australia with his friend Siouxsie, Tesla owner JJ recorded how much he spent while travelling the 3,000 kilometre (1,864 mile) journey in his 2023 M3 RWD.
JJ made the trip from the city of Melbourne in New South Wales to the tiny Magnetic Island in Queensland, which lies just off the coast of mainland Australia.
Taking 60 hours, JJ was joined by Siouxsie who kept him company on the epic trip that took days on end to complete.

But the question everyone was left asking him was how much did it cost to drive the 3,000km trek given that he had an electric vehicle made by Elon Musk's car company?
JJ, who is a professional DJ, told Yahoo News: "When I was telling all of my friends on the island about [driving up] they all just laughed at me and said ‘where are you going to charge [the car]?'”

Making the journey last summer, JJ revealed he used the 'most expensive charger', the Tesla Superchargers, on the roadside to get his car juiced up when it was running out. These electric charge points use a standardised rate through which they sell to customers topping up.
Advert Overall, he ended up with a AU$321.44 bill for his 3,136km journey by car.
A bit of LADbible maths puts this at roughly £101 per 1,000 miles.
If we want to do a comparison to price of UK pumps right now, that would be roughly £158 in petrol for the same 1,000 distance.

On charging up and the time it takes to get filled up again, JJ said it's no issue.
"It’s great because you don’t have to go into a petrol station and pay for what you’re using because it’s linked to your bank card," he said.
"Then you can go grab something to eat while you wait."
He said that his best drive for one single charge was 420km, which is just over one seventh of the journey.

"On average, it took around 25 minutes to charge the car up enough to get to the next charger," JJ explained.
It comes as one Tesla Cybertruck owner revealed how much it cost him to keep it running for a month, spending just $32 on it across 31 days.
That gave him a maximum of 1,194 miles of travel, which feels like incredible value.
