In an unexpected move, Tesla has temporarily paused production of the Cybertruck at its Austin, Texas factory for three days. The company has not provided a clear explanation for the decision, but the timing raises eyebrows—especially given the challenges Tesla is facing in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
According to Business Insider, workers involved in Cybertruck production were informed that they would still receive pay during the shutdown, but the pause is still a concerning signal. Could this be an early sign of trouble for Tesla’s futuristic electric pickup truck?
Why Did Tesla Stop Cybertruck Production ?
Short production pauses are not uncommon in the automotive industry. Companies often halt operations briefly to upgrade assembly lines or make adjustments following a vehicle recall. However, given Tesla’s declining sales figures this year, the Cybertruck pause could be about more than just routine maintenance.
One plausible explanation is low demand. While Tesla once boasted about having two million pre-orders, the reality hasn’t lived up to the hype. With the end of the year approaching, Tesla is struggling to match last year’s sales, making the decision to halt production seem like a strategy to prevent excess inventory.
A Price That Doesn’t Match the Promises
One of the biggest factors hurting Cybertruck sales is its price tag. When Tesla first announced the vehicle, it promised a starting price of $40,000. Fast forward to today, and the Foundation Series version comes in at a staggering $100,000. Even the entry-level model, which was expected to be priced around $60,000, has quietly disappeared from Tesla’s website.
