The country's chief veterinary officer said this week that the UK is experiencing a high level of Avian influenza, driven largely by migratory wild birds returning, but which has led to tens of thousands of farmed birds being culled. The risk to humans from the avian flu A(H5N1) virus is very low, but officials warned there are huge animal and trade implications.
