AI to outthink humans within years, Musk says

Elon Musk has predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) will soon become smarter than any human on Earth. The Tesla, SpaceX, and X (Twitter) owner said AI could surpass human intelligence within three years. Musk made these remarks during an interview where he viewed a video claiming rapid AI advancement.
Previously, Musk forecast that artificial general intelligence (AGI) could emerge by 2026. He has also suggested that between 2029 and 2030, AI will surpass the combined intelligence of all humans. In April 2024, he warned that by 2030, AI will be more intelligent than people, urging caution regarding its potential negative effects. Musk emphasized that AI should always be trained to speak truthfully and remain curious. In 2023, during the launch of his AI company xAI, he predicted that AI models exceeding human intelligence could be developed in five to six years. He added that he would act to slow AI progress if given the chance.
In November 2023, Musk told an AI safety conference that AI poses an unprecedented risk to humanity. He explained that while humans have previously been the most intelligent species on the planet, AI represents the first adversary that could surpass human intelligence.
